The Biodeterioration, Biodegradation and Bioremediation Specialized Group was created in 1989 within the framework of the Spanish Society of Microbiology. Our Group began by focusing on the area of Biodeterioration, and included different Spanish research groups dedicated to this matter, but advances in the study of the interactions between microorganisms and materials, made the Group's research lines grow and expand, which It was renamed the Biodeterioration and Biodegradation Group, and later, in 2001, the Biodeterioration, Biodegradation and Bioremediation Group. The BBB Group currently includes research on:

  • processes of Biodeterioro of materials that constitute the Cultural Heritage, both at the diagnostic level, as well as treatments for their elimination, prevention and control;
  • application of microorganisms to Biodegradation of materials in order to reduce the volume of pollutants, obtain products of economic interest or less harmful
  • recovery of contaminated aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems through processes of Bioremediation, analyzing the microbial communities involved and paying attention to possible biomarkers.

The board of directors of the group of Biodeterioration, Biodegradation and Bioremediation It is made up of a President, a Vice President, a Secretary-Treasurer and three members.
