Microbiología de Ecosistemas Agroforestales

El grupo tradicionalmente ha trabajado en las interacciones beneficiosas entre plantas y microorganismos del suelo. Es decir, aquellos microorganismos que promueven el crecimiento vegetal, que protegen frente a patógenos, que aportan nutrientes a la planta, etc. tanto en sistemas agrícolas como forestales. Con el desarrollo de las técnicas de secuenciación masiva, las aproximaciones que desarrollamos son holísticas pasando a estudiar metagenomas y microbiomas; y a considerar el conjunto planta-microbioma como un holobionte. Nuestro trabajo con la raíz de árboles tiene tanto una parte agraria, ya que investigamos el papel que juega el microbioma radicular del olivo en la sensibilidad/tolerancia a la verticilosis; como medioambiental al investigar el papel del microbioma en la recuperación de encinares tras un incendio forestal o en la resiliencia de roble melojo y de pinares frente al cambio climático. El objetivo final es contribuir al mantenimiento de los ecosistemas naturales y agroforestales mediante el manejo de sus microbiomas asociados.
