Published 10/7/2016
R. equi is an animal pathogen that mainly affects horses, causing pneumonia. Furthermore, it is a facultative pathogen in humans, where it primarily infects immunosuppressed individuals. The photograph shows bacteria from a strain of R. equi invading a human lung cell.
The photomicrograph was taken with an Inspect-S scanning electron microscope after coating with colloidal gold, at magnification x15,000.
