Responsibilities:

As a specialist, it will be focused on the diagnosis, treatment and control of infections caused by microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites). Its functions include:

  • Infectious disease diagnosis through sampling analysis (blood, urine, sputum, tissues, etc.).
  • Supervision of clinical microbiology laboratories.
  • Advice to doctors and clinical equipment on proper treatment with antibiotics or antivirals (Antibiotic Stewardship).
  • Hospital infections control, including outbreaks of resistant bacteria like MRSA.
