Bologna Health Jobs has an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Microbiologist at one of the most reputable hospitals in the south of Ireland within the HSE Dublin and South East network.
This full-time, purpose-built role offers a senior clinical leadership position within Diagnostic Services, supporting the delivery of high-quality microbiology services across the region.
Responsibilities:
Provide microbiology services at the consultant level, including clinical advice, microbiological diagnosis and infection management.
Lead and support infection prevention and control initiatives in the hospital.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams to optimize the use of antimicrobials (antimicrobial stewardship).
Contribute to laboratory quality assurance processes, clinical governance and accreditation standards.
Participate in service planning, clinical audits and continuous quality improvement.
Supervise and mentor doctors in training (NCHDs) and laboratory personnel.
Participate in on-call shifts and after-hours availability as required.
Requirements:
Full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland Specialist Division in Microbiology, or eligibility to obtain it. Bologna Helath Jobs will help in the entire process from receiving the CV to starting to work in said hospital.
Demonstrable experience as a Consultant in Clinical Microbiology.
High level of English, c1/b2
Leadership experience in infection prevention and optimization of antimicrobial use.
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team work skills.
Eligibility for work in Ireland. It is necessary to have a specialist qualification in microbiology recognized in the EU.
Conditions:
Salary according to the scale of HSE Consultants according to the consolidated salary scales of the Department of Health (revision 1 February 2026). From 235K to 283K gross annually, up to €40,000 in guards.
