A 48-month predoctoral contract is offered to carry out the doctoral thesis on the characterization of the microbiome and the resistoma at individual and community level in the context of the coordinated project EXPOWASTE (Integrating human biomonitoring and wastewater-based epidemiology to assess exposure to harmful chemicals and biological agents), financed by MCIN/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and by “ERDF A way of making Europe”. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with an interest in wastewater microbiology, epidemiology and metagenomics. The candidate will develop a project aimed at exploring the discriminatory characteristics between fecal and wastewater microbiomes and their resistomes, as well as analyzing whether different socioeconomic factors affect the diversity and abundance of antibiotic resistance determinants.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform laboratory and field work and will be trained to use cutting-edge technologies and bioinformatics to provide a complete picture of exposure to harmful chemicals and antibiotic-resistant pathogens, combining biomonitoring (HBM) and wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) at local and regional scales.

Searched profile

Research Field or Area of ​​Knowledge: Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences or related areas.

Qualifications and Level of Studies: University Degree and Master's Degree. Official university studies with a minimum of 300 ECTS credits, of which at least 60 are at Master's level. The selected person will have to enroll in a doctoral program at the University of Girona.

Skills: Capacity for multidisciplinary teamwork and research, work autonomy, rigorous and methodical. Driving license

Required Languages: Spanish and English.

Required Experience: Laboratory experience in Molecular Biology techniques.

Desirable: Experience in genomics/bioinformatics will be a plus.
