Description:
A candidate is sought to join through a predoctoral Research Personnel Training (FPI) contract, with a duration of four years, associated with the project "Dissecting Type VI Secretion Systems in Pathogenic Vibrio Species and Their Impact on Bivalve Aquaculture (SECRET6)" (PID2025-175465OB-I00), financed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

The purpose of the contract will be the completion of a doctoral thesis within the framework of the SECRET6 project, whose objective is to study the type VI secretion systems (T6SS) encoded by pathogenic bacteria of the genus Vibrio, in order to elucidate their function in the interactions between the pathogen, the host and its microbiota, as well as determine its impact on aquaculture.

To achieve this, a multidisciplinary approach will be used that will combine animal models of mollusks and fish, genetic engineering and different omics techniques - genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metagenomics, among others. This approach will allow us to investigate how pathogens modify the host microbiota and how they use T6SS to trigger cytotoxic effects and cause mortality.

The selected person will join the Aquaculture Pathology Research Group (GIPA1213) of the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Aquatic Environment Research Institute for One Health (iARCUS).
