We are looking for a student with great motivation for research in the last year of a bachelor's and/or master's degree in the fields of microbiology, bioengineering, biomedicine or a related field to develop his doctoral thesis with the participation and development of a translational project led by Dr. Xavier Muñoz at the IMB-CNM, located on the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Cerdanyola del Vallès.
This project aims to develop biomaterials with bacteria for the development of biosensors and soil-type microbial batteries based on the response of different sensitive microorganisms trapped in a conductive biopolymer. It will be in charge of preparing cultures of different bacterial species, genetic modification of their sensitivity and their integration into a matrix of a biopolymer with conductive properties, with the capacity to analyze metabolism and/or cell viability for its implementation in a final format. of Lab on Chip for analysis in situ from environmental contaminants and/or obtaining energy through the metabolism of the bacteria itself.
A 24-month pre-doctoral contract is offered with the possibility of extension, with a 40h/week shift and a 6-month trial period. This contract is part of the European SOIL2POWER Project (EIC Transition-2022). The annual gross salary is 24.000€. He would become part of a research group with great projection and scientific impact and with a collaborative environment and in which he would participate in the publication of the project results in high-impact scientific journals.
All interested parties must send a short motivation letter and full CV to Xavier.Munoz@imb-cnm.csic.es indicating the concept "Microbial-based bioelectrodes predoctoral call" with a deadline of 04/30/2023. The selected candidates will be contacted to hold a face-to-face meeting.
