The Award for the best Doctoral Thesis in Microbiology of the Aquatic Environment for the biennium 2018-2019 has been awarded. 7 nominations were presented and the award went to the thesis presented by Jessica Subirats Medina at the University of Girona, with the title "Influence of anthropogenic pollution on the prevalence, maintenance and spread of antibiotic resistance in aquatic microbial communities" and directed by Dr. Carles Borrego and Dr. José Luis Balcázar.
The jury was made up of:
- Dr. Teresa Pérez Nieto, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Vigo.
- Dr. Inmaculada Llamas Company, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Granada.
- Dr. Esther García Rosado, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Malaga.
The decision was reached unanimously and the jury has highlighted the high quality of all the theses presented. The prize will be awarded at the next Group Meeting.
